Pune GP R5: Jiner escapes jaws of defeat after Salimova's queen sac
IM Nurgyul Salimova (BUL) sacrificed her queen for a rook and knight, got herself few good opportunities to win against GM Jiner Zhu (CHN). However, despite playing so well, she was unable to capitalize on her chances and the fifth round game of FIDE Pune GP ended in a draw. GM R Vaishali scored her first win of the event against IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (MGL). India's top two women, GM Koneru Humpy and GM Harika Dronavalli made a quick 19-move draw. Vaishali scores her first win, Humpy and Harika make a quick draw
GM Jiner Zhu (CHN) maintains her sole lead 4/5 after surviving a scare against IM Nurgyul Salimova (BUL). GM Koneru Humpy and IM Divya Deshmukh are trailing the leader by a half point at 3.5/5 each. GM Harika Dronavalli, IM Polina Shuvalova and GM R Vaishali are at 2.5/5 each.
Vaishali - Batkhuyag: 1-0
GM R Vaishali (2484) faced IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (MGL, 2361) three times in Classical rated games. Vaishali won the first two encounter and third one ended in a draw.
In an already difficult position, Black blundered 40...Ne5? as it forced the rook trade 41.Rc7+ Rd7 42.Rxd7+ Bxd7 43.Bxa6 and White won the game in nine more moves.
Nurgyul - Jiner: 0.5-0.5
IM Nurgyul Salimova (BUL, 2402) faced GM Jiner Zhu (CHN, 2525) in only one Classical rated game. Jiner prevailed in that. However, this time, Nurgyul found herself in a good position after she sacrificed her queen.
Nurgyul thought that after 45. Qxd5! White should just be winning. 45...exd5 46.Rxc7+ Kh8 47.Bc8 seemed powerful to White Qa3 48.R1c6 Qxe3+ 49.Kh2 Black found the correct defence Qe8 50.Be6 Rd8 51.Kg1 Qf8 52.Rf7 Qb4 53.Bxf5 White missed few good opportunities and the game eventually ended in a draw.
